Frequently Asked
Questions

How does a solar power system work for my home?

A solar power system uses solar panels to capture sunlight and convert it into electricity using an inverter. This electricity powers your home’s appliances. If your system generates more power than you use, the excess can be sent back to the grid or stored in a battery (if installed).

What are the different types of solar systems available?

  1.  There are three main types:
    • On-grid (grid-tied): Connected to the electricity grid. Ideal for reducing electricity bills.
    • Off-grid: Not connected to the grid. Suitable for remote areas. Requires batteries for storage.

Hybrid: A mix of both. Works with the grid and has battery backup.

What is net metering and how does it benefit me?

Net metering is a billing arrangement that credits you for the excess electricity your solar system sends back to the grid. It helps reduce your electricity bill significantly by offsetting the power you draw from the grid when solar isn’t available (like at night).

How much roof space do I need for a solar system?

A typical residential system requires about 60-70 sq. ft. per kW. For example, a 3 kW system needs around 180-200 sq. ft. However, this can vary based on panel type, roof angle, and shading.

What is the average payback period for a solar system?

The payback period usually ranges between 3 to 5 years, depending on your system size, electricity usage, local electricity rates, and available government subsidies.

Will my solar system work during a power outage?

  • On-grid systems shut down during outages for safety reasons.
  • Off-grid and hybrid systems with battery backup will continue to power your home during outages.

How long does a solar system last?

  • Solar panels typically last 25 to 30 years, with most manufacturers offering a 30-year performance warranty. Inverters may need replacement after 10-15 years.

What maintenance is required for a home solar system?

  • Very little! Solar panels just need periodic cleaning (every few months) to remove dust and debris. Annual system check-ups are also recommended to ensure everything is running efficiently.

Can I monitor the performance of my solar system?

  • Yes! We provide an online monitoring app or portal that lets you track your power generation, consumption, and savings in real time.

Is financing or subsidy available for residential solar systems?

  • Yes. The Indian government offers subsidies under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Financing options like EMIs and solar loans are also available through our partners.
